Our journey begins in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong’s least affluent district and a hidden gem for authentic street food. Forget fine dining—this is where you’ll find Bib Gourmand noodles and local snacks that are as delicious as they are affordable.
The exact stops may vary depending on the day, weather, and group preferences, but highlights include:
Cheung Fun (Rice Noodle Rolls): Smothered in sweet, sesame, and soy sauces, this comforting local favorite is Michelin-recommended and absolutely unmissable.
Beef and Egg Sandwich: Marinated beef fried with eggs, nestled between crispy toast—this comforting dish is a highlight at a beloved café that has been serving locals since 1968, offering a nostalgic taste of Hong Kong.
Wife Cake: A flaky, golden pastry filled with sweet winter melon and almond paste, this iconic heritage treat is made with time-honored techniques at a traditional Chinese bakery.
Tong Shui (Chinese Dessert Soups): Indulge in traditional sweet treats at a Michelin-recommended café with old Hong Kong charm. Believed to promote health and wellness, these desserts are the perfect guilt-free indulgence!
As we roam Sham Shui Po, you’ll not only eat like a local but also gain insights into Hong Kong’s housing crisis, the challenges of urban living, and the unique resilience of its residents.
Next, we head to Mong Kok, a district famous for its bustling markets, shopping, and dazzling neon lights. Explore Fa Yuen Street Market and the Goldfish Market while we dive into topics like media, politics, and the fascinating tradition of keeping fish for good fortune.
Our foodie adventures continue with:
Michelin Bib Gourmand Wonton Noodles: Handcrafted using a traditional bamboo pole method, these noodles have the perfect bounce and have been perfected by masters since the 1970s.
Hong Kong’s Famous Egg Tarts: With golden, flaky crusts and silky custard centers, these heavenly treats are a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth.
Our final stop is Yau Ma Tei, a district brimming with history and character. We’ll start at the historic Wholesale Fruit Market, a lively hub established in 1913 and a haven for photographers with its weathered buildings and vintage signage. We’ll also visit the Taoist Tin Hau Temple and discover the popular hangouts of the city’s elderly residents.
Here, our foodie exploration includes:
Exotic Fruits from the Wholesale Fruit Market: A rare chance to taste the freshest, most vibrant, and unique fruits Hong Kong has to offer.
Ser Geng (Snake Meat Soup): This rich and savory delicacy is revered for its health benefits and is a true Hong Kong classic. For the brave, we’ll finish with a shot of snake wine—a bold and memorable experience!
This tour combines the best of history, culture, and cuisine, making it the ultimate way to explore Kowloon after dark.
*We cover between 7 and 9 food stops and try to include two Michelin-rated eats on every tour. Stops might differ depending on your interests, the walking pace, and weather etc
